And yet, sometimes, the people looking for them simply don't know where to look.
That's where Hidden Gems SA began.
IT STARTED WITH A SIMPLE THOUGHT
While building websites, apps and working with businesses through Olideen Technologies (https://olideentech.co.za/), we kept noticing something: brilliant businesses were doing excellent work, but the tools available to help people find them weren't always built with businesses like theirs in mind.
Today, businesses have access to incredible digital tools i.e. Google Search, Google Business Profile, social media, websites, online advertising and many other platforms that can help people discover what they offer. However, every business is different. Every business owner has different resources, different priorities and a different amount of time available to manage an online presence. A brilliant hairdresser or mechanic shouldn't have to become a marketing expert just to be found by the people already looking for them.
So we started asking: what if there was one place where people could simply search for businesses and services in their own town? What if someone searching for a particular service could come across a business they'd driven past a hundred times and never known was exactly what they needed?
That simple idea became Hidden Gems SA.

Hidden Gems SA is a business directory built to help people discover the businesses, services and entrepreneurs already working in their own communities, whatever you're looking for, and whoever offers it.
We're starting locally, because we believe local discovery matters. A search for businesses in your town should lead you to businesses actually serving your town. As Hidden Gems SA grows, we hope to make discovering local businesses easier for people across more towns and communities.
We wanted to build a place where a business can simply say:
"We're here."
And where someone searching for what they offer can say:
"I didn't know you were here."

At Olideen Technologies, we believe technology should be useful. It should solve real problems, make things easier, create opportunities, and be built with real people and real communities in mind.
We wanted to build something that could give back to the communities around us, and Hidden Gems SA gives us a way to put that belief into practice. We're not simply building technology and asking people to come to us, we're building a bridge to businesses that are already doing excellent work and deserve to be easier to find.
